It is a neutral or achromatic color, meaning literally that it is a color “without color”. It is the color of a cloud-covered sky, of ash and of lead. Not exactly the favorite color of many people , associating it with “gloom”.

However, in the decorating circles, grey is the new white—yep , and has been for a while. It’s a more elegant neutral that gives depth to subtle colors and makes bold tones pop (rather than shout). But getting grey right is tricky: The “temperature” of a particular shade—cool or warm—can evoke very different feelings and have an enormous impact on the mood of a room.

Cool Greys

Ethereal and breezy, these greys have undertones of blue. In a sunny room (where some greys could look dull), cool greys hold their color. Zen and peaceful, these are also perfect for a crisp, clean feeling in a bathroom.

Warm Greys

The hints of yellow in warm greys telegraph earthiness, comfort, and coziness. In some light, a yellowish grey can look taupe. For rooms without much natural light, pick a warm shade; its slight golden hue will make a dark space less dreary.

Decorating With Greys

1. Contrast with a shot of RED

Grey walls make brilliant backdrops, especially when adding something really bright like a shot of red.

2. Mix up textures

Layering your best bed linen across the end of the bed will stop grey bedrooms from looking too muted, and keep them feeling comfortable and plush. Mix textures such as knits with faux fur for something you really want to sink into.

3. Keep it cool

Going for darker grey walls can seem scary when staring at a paint chart, but if you balance them out with white floors and white kitchen cabinets it will soften the palette no end.

4. Go  Bohemian

Bohemian living rooms are always about a mix of style, from cool grey walls and animal print rugs to sleek art deco furniture. Adding a metallic gleam with some living room lighting in the form of a fisherman light will just ramp up the maximalist appeal.
